virtual servers - vservers - informations
What is a virtual server?
A virtual server is a process on a host server computer, which virtualizes a complete computer. From the users point of view, there is no difference in between using a real hardware server or a vserver. A Vserver consists of dedicated harddrive space and dynamically assigned cpu time and memory, though memory and cpu time can also be limited. VServers are especially suitable for small mail, web or ftp servers if your traffic volume is low or you just want to use the vserver as a testbed for new applications.
Speed and performance of virtual servers
The performance of a virtual server corresponds to real hardware servers. Since however on the host server several vservers share the same physical hardware, the performance is not 100 percent the same than using a dedicated server but it's speed is quite good if your application does not need much disk io or cpu-time which is true for most small projects or private websites.
Security and stability of virtual servers
The security of the virtual server is comparable with real hardware servers, since this is strongly dependent on the operating system. Your data is mirrored by software RAID1 array on the host-system which protects your data against faulty disc drives.
Flexibility and scalability of vservers
If you have used the vserver for some time and are running low on disk-space or traffic-volume we can easily enlarge the assigned diskspace of your vserver or set a higher traffic limit. So it is no problem when your application demands more hardware resources, we can provide them. If your application is growing really big, we can easily convert your installed vserver system to a real dedicated server.
